On September 2, 2025, I started publishing a LinkedIn Newsletter. Here are the first 6 Newsletters to reflect and experiment with!

Be Present. "One Career Thing". Values.

ViewPoint: Life, Career, & Leadership Reflections & Experiments

Welcome to ViewPoint, a newsletter designed to improve your ViewPoint on life, career, & leadership through reflections and experiments. Each publication will include a reflection or experiment for a related life, career, or leadership topic. Choose one or choose all three to reflect on or experiment with – the choice is yours! My hope is that it empowers you to be your best self – in your life, in your career, and as a leader! Enjoy!

LIFE Reflections & Experiments

I’ve read and practiced, “being present in the moment,” off and on over the years, but it wasn’t until recently that I really embraced being present in the moment. Not thinking and everything that comes with thinking. Just being. It removed the regret, guilt, and shame that came with thinking about the past. It removed the anxiety and worry that comes with thinking about the future. I’ve just been in the moment. Mindful. Aware. Present.

To practice, this is one approach you can take.

  • Sit or stand still in one place.

  • Take a few deep breaths, roughly 4 counts for each inhale and exhale.

  • Keep your eyes open.

  • Notice your body and how it feels. Acknowledge it. Don’t judge. Appreciate your body.

  • Look around you and notice your surroundings. Notice and appreciate what you see.

  • Listen to the sounds around you. Notice and appreciate what you hear.

  • Let go of the past and future thoughts. Let them drift away.

  • Here you are. In this moment. Just be present to what is.

Experiment with being present in the moment a couple of times a day and increase from there. See how it makes you feel. I hope it creates pause and peace in your day.

CAREER Reflections & Experiments

What’s one thing that will help you in your career right now? Is there something that you’re avoiding? Is there something you’ve thought about, but not set aside time to really dig into it? Is there an idea you want to build out? Is there a skill you want to build or a habit you want to start?

Take 5 minutes to think about the "one career thing" that can help you in your career right now.

If you have your one thing, start to put your plans in place:

  • What’s your first, next step to making it happen?

  • What resources do you need – time, money, people, or other resources?

  • Do you need feedback or input from anyone?

  • What does success look like?

  • What mindset or beliefs do you need to be successful?

  • When can you start?

  • If it’s helpful, block time on your calendar to do the things.

Now, go, experiment with this “one career thing” and see how it helps your career.

LEADERSHIP Reflections & Experiments

Have you reflected on your values recently? We are guided by our values and it’s helpful to reflect on them regularly to see if we’re acting in alignment or need to shift our leadership behaviors a little bit, or a lot.

Take 15-30 minutes to identify and reflect on your values https://www.viewpointcoachingandconsulting.com/values

  • Think about how your leadership style represents your values.

  • Do you want to make any shifts?

  • If you don’t, what’s working and what do you want to continue?

  • If you do want to shift, think about situations where you can demonstrate your values more.

  • What will it take to demonstrate your values? Do you need to think, say, or do something differently? Do you need support from anyone? What will it take?

  • How can you enable yourself to do it?

  • Visualize yourself demonstrating your values.

  • Then, practice and experiment until it feels right.

Each day we have an opportunity to reflect and experiment on our lives, careers, and leadership so we can be our best selves. Take the time today to pick one or all three reflections and experiments to help you create your new ViewPoint and be your best self!

Comfort Zone. Uncertainty. Courageous Authenticity.

Do you stay in your comfort zone every day, all day? Is there an area of your life that you’d like to push yourself just a little bit more – in relationships, with your health, with your hobbies, or something else?

Take 5 minutes to identify an area of your life where you can push yourself out of your comfort zone, do something a little uncomfortable, learn something new… it doesn’t have to be something wild and crazy – it can be – but doesn’t have to be.

Some ideas:

  • Reach out to an old friend or someone new you’d love to have a relationship with

  • Learn how to do something new, cook a new dish, create a new art project, create an AI agent…whatever interests you

  • Try a new workout or do 5-10 more reps of each exercise (listen to your body)

Choose one thing.

Pick a time to do it.

Think about your mindset – what do you need to think and believe, to get yourself to do it?

Then, do it!

CAREER Reflections & Experiments

How do you deal with uncertainty? Do you embrace it? Does it paralyze you? Where do you fall in this range?

If you understand how you deal with uncertainty, you can equip yourself to handle it better with each situation you face. The more and more you face it, the easier it gets.

Make a list of things/situations that are uncertain right now in your career.

Looking at the list, what level of anxiety or other feeling, does each situation make you feel. On a scale of 0-10, 10 being the highest level of negative feeling, write your rating by each situation.

Then, choose one situation, likely the highest rated situation, you want to dive into and follow these steps:

  • Acknowledge what you’re feeling about the situation; name it. It often feels better just to recognize it.

  • What can you do for yourself, to ground yourself, help yourself to feel solid? Do you like to meditate, workout, read, engage in hobbies? Identify 1 or 2 things that help you feel solid, book time, and do those regularly.

  • What’s the narrative or the story that you’re telling yourself about this situation? Is there a way to reframe it? Change it slightly or radically? Changing the narrative can change your viewpoint and help with uncertainty.

  • Talk to colleagues, friends, or family about the situation to gain support and other perspectives.

  • Notice if you’re being hard on yourself and see if there’s a way to show yourself more compassion.

  • Is there any action that you can take to gain more certainty – is there anything within your control? Is there someone you need to talk to? Is there something you need to deliver?

Each of these steps may help in their own way. Follow these steps and see what happens for you.

LEADERSHIP Reflections & Experiments

Do you lead with courageous authenticity? Are you truly you, as a leader?

Take 5 minutes to think about these questions:

  • How do you know when you’re leading with courageous authenticity?

  • What does authenticity feel like in your body?

  • What stops you from being yourself - and how do you shift that?

If you identify ways to shift, to be more courageously authentic, when do you want to start?

What mindset do you need to have – what do you need to think and believe to do it?

Then, do it!

Show up as your courageously authentic leader self!

Each day we have an opportunity to reflect and experiment on our lives, careers, and leadership so we can be our best selves. Take the time today to pick one or all three reflections and experiments to help you create your new ViewPoint and be your best self!

Be Bold. Be Bold Now. Be Bold Continuously.

ViewPoint: Life, Career, & Leadership Reflections & Experiments

Welcome to ViewPoint, a newsletter designed to improve your ViewPoint on your life, career, & leadership through reflections and experiments. Each publication will include a reflection or experiment for a related life, career, or leadership topic. Choose one or choose all three to reflect on or experiment with – the choice is yours! My hope is that it empowers you to be your best self – in your life, in your career, and as a leader! Enjoy!

Why the topic of Be Bold?

This weekend, I worked with 20 teenage girls, to define what change they want to make for themselves and in their community, what holds them back, and how to get past those blockers to be bold and to lead with courageous authenticity. Today, I want to pull in some of those reflections, so you, too, can be bold in your life, career, and leadership.

Let's get started. First, you’ll need to define BOLD.

What does being bold look like for you?

Is being bold doing something new? Is being bold stepping out of your comfort zone? Is being bold practicing something over and over again until you master it?

What does being bold look like for you?

Take a minute to define being BOLD for you.

Why do you want to be bold? Most of our aspirations in life require us to be bold in some way. They require us to do something differently, learn something new, open ourselves up to potential failure, or something else, which requires us to motivate ourselves to get past the potential issues, reach for the potential successes, and go for it... to BE BOLD. So, you can stay with the status quo, wondering "what if" or you can infuse a bit of bold in your life and work towards your aspirations. What choice do you want to make today?

Now, for each area, your life, your career, and leadership, I’d like you to answer three questions and pick a next step for each…

LIFE Reflections & Experiments

  • What’s possible in your life if you took one bold step? Sit back, think about it, what's possible?

  • What holds you back from taking that step? (beliefs, inner critic, resources - time, $, people, knowledge, or something else)

  • What’s one thing you can do to take that bold step?

CAREER Reflections & Experiments

  • What’s possible in your career if you took one bold step?

  • What holds you back from taking that step? (beliefs, inner critic, resources - time, $, people, knowledge, or something else)

  • What’s one thing you can do to take that bold step?

LEADERSHIP Reflections & Experiments

  • What’s possible for your leadership if you took one bold step?

  • What holds you back from taking that step? (beliefs, inner critic, resources - time, $, people, knowledge, or something else)

  • What’s one thing you can do to take that bold step?

Be intentional, focus on taking each of these bold next steps and see what happens!

Be Bold. Be Bold Now. Be Bold Continuously. The way you define it.

Each day we have an opportunity to reflect and experiment on our lives, careers, and leadership so we can be our best selves. Take the time today to pick one or all three reflections and experiments to help you create your new ViewPoint and be your best self!

Caring what other people think about you

ViewPoint: Life, Career, & Leadership Reflections & Experiments

Welcome to ViewPoint, a newsletter designed to improve your ViewPoint on your life, career, & leadership through reflections and experiments. Each publication will include a reflection or experiment for a related life, career, or leadership topic. Choose one or choose all three to reflect on or experiment with – the choice is yours! My hope is that it empowers you to be your best self – in your life, in your career, and as a leader! Enjoy!

Today’s theme: Caring what other people think about you

At some point in our lives, a switch flips, and we REALLY care what people think about us. We care about what our parents think about us. We care about what our friends think about us. We care about what our teachers, leaders, neighbors, and community think about us. We even care about what random strangers think about us (“Mom – I can’t go to the grocery store wearing this!”). That’s a lot of people to worry about what people think about us.

Then, we evolve, start coming into our own identity and get clear on who we are and who we’re not and who we’ll change for and who we won’t. We don’t necessarily grow out of it, but we learn to recognize when we care what someone thinks, how that’s influencing us, pause and reflect, and make a choice on what we want to do about it.

Today’s reflection is to help with creating a new ViewPoint on how you care about what other people think about you.

LIFE Reflections & Experiments

Are you living for you or for someone else? It’s a loaded question. Think about it though, are there choices that you’ve made in your life that were mostly for someone else – their preferences, their beliefs of what you should do or what success looks like, their own unfulfilled life dreams?

With the opportunities that are ahead for you, what do you want now that aligns with your own values, purpose, and vision, and still supports those around you?

Can you respectfully let go of what other people think and make a choice that aligns with who you are?

Take some time to reflect and then take intentional action.

CAREER Reflections & Experiments

Who is your career for? Does your career provide financial stability, intellectual engagement, emotional resonance, alignment with your values, and the opportunity to grow & evolve?

Or, are you in a career or role you thought you should go into and have been dissatisfied for years?

If that’s the case, take time to reflect on your values, purpose, vision and what you really want, identify the paths to get there, and take steps in that direction.

You’ll get there.

If your career is for you, nice work! Keep making decisions to keep it that way.

LEADERSHIP Reflections & Experiments

As a leader, you do need to care what people think about you because it impacts their motivation and ability to deliver results. If your team doesn’t think you’re setting the vision for the organization, you probably should set the vision. If your team thinks you’re great at sharing information, keep sharing information.

That said, align your behaviors with your values. If someone wants you to give someone else credit for a project, act in alignment with your integrity. If someone wants you to delay a project for the wrong reasons, act in alignment with your integrity and accountability.

When you act in alignment with your values, you're leading with courageous authenticity.

Take a few minutes to answer these questions:

  • Who are you leading? Roles, functions, diversity, strengths, opportunities… who are these people?

  • Who are you leading with? Who are your peers? Who is your leadership team?

  • Who are you leading on behalf of? Who is your manager?

  • If you live by your values, what does it look like to lead each group? With your manager, is it advocating for your team? With your peers, is it promoting your teams' work? With your team, is it being transparent?

  • What are the behaviors that align with your values that you’re demonstrating? For example, if you value integrity, what does that look like with your manager, your peers, and your team? Do you provide real-time updates on important topics? Do you share the bad news with the good?

Take a few minutes to think about your values, your behaviors, that make up you and how you can lead for your manager, your team, and with your peers.

Are you behaving in alignment with your values and who you are?

Identify one behavior you want to build on in the next month.

Experiment and see what happens!

Each day we have an opportunity to reflect and experiment on our lives, careers, and leadership so we can be our best selves. Take the time today to pick one or all three reflections and experiments to help you create your new ViewPoint and be your best self!

Are you waiting for the perfect "wave"?

ViewPoint: Life, Career, & Leadership Reflections & Experiments

Welcome to ViewPoint, a newsletter designed to improve your ViewPoint on your life, career, & leadership through reflections and experiments. Each publication will include a reflection or experiment for a related life, career, or leadership topic. Choose one or choose all three to reflect on or experiment with – the choice is yours! My hope is that it empowers you to be your best self – in your life, in your career, and as a leader! Enjoy!

Today’s topic applies to all three areas, life, career, and leadership –

Are you waiting for the perfect “wave” to come in before you catch it and ride it in?

I went surfing on Saturday and there was a period of time where there were no waves. Nothing. The surfers were all lined up, I was one of them… waiting. And, the question hit me, am I waiting for the perfect “wave” to come in before I catch the wave and ride it in? Or, am I looking for waves that I can catch, get a good ride, and gain experience?

This applies to life, career, and leadership, too. Think about it.

In life, career, and leadership, we often idealize the perfect situation or opportunity, the perfect "wave", and wait for it to come, while turning down several opportunities in the process that can provide great experience, or fulfill other needs that we have.

Sometimes, when we wait, the opportunity is magnificent, and it’s worth it. Other times, we don’t even see the opportunity, and we miss it. Other times, it may not turn out to be what we thought it would be.

So, what do you do?

Define your criteria for interim opportunities. Opportunities that align with most of your values, purpose, vision, what you want to learn, experience, the impact you want to have, and the network you want to be immersed in.

Define what opportunities will give you skills, knowledge, experience, or a network that ladders up to your perfect opportunity.

Then, look for those “waves”, catch them and ride them in, gaining a little bit more experience along the way. One "wave" may give you more experience. One "wave" may make you wipe out, so you can learn from failure. Another "wave" may turn out much better than expected. Who knows, when you bring your board back out to catch the next “wave”, the perfect one may be rolling your way, ready for you!

Define what your interim "waves" look like, catch them, and ride them in, while pursuing the perfect "wave" - your life will be richer as a result.

Each day we have an opportunity to reflect and experiment on our lives, careers, and leadership so we can be our best selves. Take the time today to reflect and experiment to help you create your new ViewPoint and be your best self!

Building trust and influence

ViewPoint: Life, Career, & Leadership Reflections & Experiments

Welcome to ViewPoint, a newsletter designed to improve your ViewPoint on your life, career, & leadership through reflections and experiments. Each publication will include a reflection or experiment for a related life, career, or leadership topic. Choose one or choose all three to reflect on or experiment with – the choice is yours! My hope is that it empowers you to be your best self – in your life, in your career, and as a leader! Enjoy!

Today’s theme: how do you build trust and influence in your personal relationships, business relationships, and as a leader?

In many of our roles, we build trust to influence others. We influence others to gain buy-in or approval, to allocate resources, to drive action or change, to change perceptions, to educate, to create alignment, or many other reasons.

It’s important to know how to build trust and influence others.

Before reflecting and identifying experiments around building trust and influence, here are some tips to consider:

  • Be consistently reliable. People want to know that they can count on you, and this builds overtime. Consistently follow through on what you say you’re going to do, meeting deadlines, and proactively communicating when things change.

  • Listen to understand, not to respond. This is deeper level listening, paying attention to all physical and verbal cues, in addition to the words.

  • Be transparent. Share the background, admit mistakes, and be honest. Give enough information for people to be successful in their jobs.

  • Invest in relationships early. Build rapport, show appreciation, and offer help without expecting anything in return.

  • Share credit. Recognize contributions and build a culture of trust and collaboration.

  • Ask great questions. Be curious about what other people are doing, thinking about, etc. and engage.

Now, it’s time to reflect and identify experiments to improve your ability to build trust and influence.

LIFE Reflections & Experiments

  • How do you listen to your friends and/or partner? Are you listening to understand or to respond?

  • Reflect for a few minutes.

  • Celebrate what you’re doing well.

  • Identify one thing you’d like to do to improve building trust and influence.

  • Make a plan to start.

CAREER Reflections & Experiments

  • Which professional relationships do you need to build more trust and influence?

  • Which of the tips above do you think will help you?

  • Reflect on how you can do this and make a plan to start.

LEADERSHIP Reflections & Experiments

  • How transparent are you being with your team?

  • Is it the right level of information for them to do their jobs?

  • Reflect on whether you want to increase or decrease your transparency.

  • Make a plan to do this and start.

Each day we have an opportunity to reflect and experiment on our lives, careers, and leadership so we can be our best selves. Take the time today to reflect and experiment to help you create your new ViewPoint and be your best self!
